Meet The Team

Dan Schuyler

Owner & Operator

Dan Schuyler has been a prominent fixture in the American jewelry industry for more than 36 years. He has dealt in nearly every aspect of the jewelry business—from sales and advertising to buying and designing.

Dan had his first foray into the jewelry business at the age of 19, when he worked as an engraver at a local jeweler while attending college. His passion for the business proliferated and he soon educated himself in the industry and rose through the ranks. Dan eventually won a position with the country’s largest independent jeweler, the Albert Smyth Company in Maryland.

During the course of his education, he became a GIA diamond and pearl course graduate. In 2002, he set his sights on Southwest Florida and worked with some of the region’s leading jewelry companies. Dan met well-known Captiva Realtor Karen Bell in 2002. After selling her a pair of diamond earrings and sharing a cup of coffee, the two agreed to form a partnership, and conceived the idea of opening their own Sanibel jewelry store. Lily & Co. is the realization of Dan’s dream of owning and operating a jewelry store.

Karen Bell

President/Owner

Karen Bell has been a Sanibel-Captiva resident for more than 38 years. As one of Southwest Florida’s most experienced Realtors, Karen has been selling high-end island properties for more than 30 years. She is a leading businesswoman in the region, and is known as a great friend to Sanibel and Captiva.

In 2001, Karen opened a real estate company, Karen Bell Realty, on Captiva. In 2003, her company merged with VIP Realty Group on Sanibel, dominating 30 percent of the islands’ real estate market. She was VIP’s director of sales for Captiva and the head of her six-agent “Bell Team.” In 2006, Karen undertook yet another entrepreneurial opportunity. Partnering with jewelry expert Dan Schuyler, she opened Lily & Co. Jewelers on Sanibel. Named after her Labradoodle, Lily & Co. is Sanibel’s first jewelry gallery, offering couture jewelry lines and fine art at one location.

Her experience on the islands has led her to a position of permanent corporate philanthropist. Karen is an active member of the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, Community Housing and Resources, and Friends that Care. She also lends her support to Sanibel Beautification, C.R.O.W. and BIG ARTS.

This consummate professional and ambitious philanthropist plans to continue to innovate on Sanibel and Captiva for years to come, while always putting her signature emphasis on customer service, originality and positive energy.

Lily

Greeter/Mascot

Lily the Labradoodle became a Sanibel resident in 2004. Born in Australia, Lily traveled halfway around the globe to adopt her mother and business partner, Karen Bell. While Karen ran (and still does run) a successful realty office on Sanibel-Captiva, Lily spent her time looking for interesting ventures. Tired of spending her time being perfectly groomed, Lily decided to spend her time in a more spectacular setting—at Lily & Co. — as one of its greeters. She was a real “paws on” kind of girl. While her business partners, Karen Bell and Dan Schuyler, brought (and still continue to bring) the business expertise, Lily provided her exacting standards and fabulous taste to all aspects of the Sanibel jewelry gallery, from jewelry selection to customer service. Sadly, Lily has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, but her spirit still lives on in the store each and every day.

Gracie and Angel were Labrador retrievers who teamed up with their best friend, Lily the Labradoodle, as official store greeters to the “stars” — our wonderful customers and other guests. Gracie and Angel were in the store every day with Dan, hard at work assisting clients with their selection of couture jewelry and other fine merchandise found only at Lily & Co Jewelers in beautiful Southwest Florida. Sadly, Gracie and Angel have also crossed the Rainbow Bridge with their best friend Lily but their spirit still lives in the store and are constantly reminding us of their loving nature every day, just as Lily still does.

Allie and Jewel are Labrador and Golden Retrievers who have teamed up with their best friend, Lily the Labradoodle, as official store greeters to the “stars” — our wonderful customers and other guests. Allie and Jewel are in the store every day with Dan, hard at work assisting clients with their selection of couture jewelry and other fine merchandise found only at Lily & Co Jewelers in beautiful Southwest Florida. Ruby

Greeter/Friend of Lily

Ruby is a Labradoodle who has resided in Sanibel since 2020. Ruby also comes from Australia and even from the same family as Lily! Like Lily, Ruby dedicates spending her time with Lily & Co., and helping her mom run her successful realty office. Ruby continues Lily's legacy by bringing her exacting standards and fabulous taste to Lily & Co. She is also an expert at bringing smiles and joy to everyone she meets, and playing and having fun with her best pals, Jewel and Allie.
