Lily & Co. Jewelers has three reasons to celebrate: Lily, Gracie and Angel.
The four-legged trio extends an invitation to their infamous birthday bash from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7 under a big tent in the parking lot of Lily & Co. Jewelers, 520 Tarpon Rd. It will be a paws-itvely delightful afternoon filled with food, fun activities and raising funds for a very worthy cause.
Lily, Gracie and Angel, for the tenth year, are lending a helping paw to Fort Myers-based Animal Refuge Center (ARC). The no-kill shelter is dedicated to finding loving homes for cats and dogs who have been spayed or neutered. It was started by a group of individuals who, in 1988, came together with the vision of creating a positive solution to pet overpopulation.
“It takes a supportive community for ARC to carry out its important mission,” Dan Schuyler, co-owner of Lily & Co. and owner of Gracie, 13, and Angel, 8, said. “We are proud to celebrate our tenth year of making ARC the beneficiary of the girls’ birthday celebration, raising a record $18,000 last year.”
Lily the Labradoodle, who will turn 12 years old, is the company’s namesake and lends her brown curly style to its advertisements. “She has been a wonderful friend to me over the years,” said Karen Bell, Lily’s mother and co-owner of Lily & Co. “We are just delighted to be a part of helping ARC find wonderful friends for other dogs and cats.”
Coral Veterinary Clinic will return with its popular pooch kissing booth. Bow Wow N Meow will have pet sitting information available. Morning Star Dog Training will have tips for an obedient dog. Island Grooming will talk spa and styling for your pet and demos by Groomer Shabby. Jessica Chaney, with GMI Pet Products, will make her first visit. GMI carries numerous pet supplies including gates, travel barriers and play yards.
There will be a dog-themed fashion show presented by J. McClaughlin and raffle prizes including a gift certificate for a beach photo session with your pet from Grand Affair Photography. Candid shots of birthday party guests will be available at no charge. Rafael Diez returns with caricature drawings.
Of course Lily, Gracie and Angel know a birthday celebration is never complete without two kinds of cake – one for the two-legged guests and pup cakes – with a cake-cutting ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Sanibel Catering Company by Bailey’s will be grilling hot dogs and serving other delicious treats for the human guests. The girls also invite their non-human friends to come dressed to the nines for a fabulous costume contest. First, second and third places will be awarded to the best-dressed pooch.
All prizes awarded at 2:30 p.m., following the cake cutting ceremony. “It will be a great birthday celebration, so mark your calendar now and don’t forget your furry friend,” Schuyler says.
